Protestant Religious Education Coordinator - Misawa AB

Position Summary:

The Protestant Religious Education Coordinator (REC) is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and overseeing the Protestant Religious Education program at Misawa Air Base Chapel. This includes educational and spiritual programming for children, youth, and adults, as well as seasonal and liturgical activities. The coordinator will manage volunteers, coordinate with chapel staff, and ensure effective communication and advertising for all religious education events.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage comprehensive RE programs: Sunday School, youth and adult Bible studies, men's and women's ministries, Vacation Bible School, and seasonal events.

  • Recruit, train, and supervise up to 25 volunteers.

  • Coordinate curricula and materials procurement and budgeting in line with the Airman Ministry Plan.

  • Maintain classrooms and storage areas; oversee scheduling and logistics for events.

  • Coordinate background checks for volunteers and maintain related documentation.

  • Publicize RE events through bulletins, social media, and chapel platforms.

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and participate in all major chapel programs involving RE.

  • Maintain weekly office hours for administrative duties and program coordination.

  • Provide regular updates and collaborate closely with the Quality Assurance Evaluator (QAE) and Chapel Tithes and Offering Fund (CTOF) Account Manager.


Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of relevant teaching or coordination experience, preferably in a Protestant setting, preferred

  • Degree in childhood education or a related field preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of Protestant religious education practices.

  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a religiously pluralistic environment.

  • Must pass security background checks (FBI, Installation Records Check).

  • Strong communication skills in English (TOEIC/TOEFL/EIKEN equivalent if applicable).

  • Experience in budgeting and volunteer management.

  • Must demonstrate professional conduct in-person and online.


Work Schedule:

  • 20 hours per week, not to exceed the limit unless otherwise approved.

  • Flexible hours based on mission needs, including evenings and weekends.

  • Office hours generally fall between 0730–1630, Monday through Friday.

  • Required presence during Protestant worship services and special events.

  • Federal holidays observed unless chapel programming requires presence.
